How do you shorten .avi movies for you to upload to YouTube???

I have tied using Windows movie maker but whenever i try uploading an .avi file it says error that a codec is repuired. so is there any other software that i can download for free?

It's online, and very simple and easy to use.

To shorten it, just cut the clips or speed it up double. Windows Movie Maker is the producer. I tryed other things, but windows movie maker is the easiest to use.

You have to edit, then 'publish' the movie in WMM. The Youtube requirements are 100MB and around 10-11 minutes max. You shorten it by 'editing' or cutting bits out useing you WMM by dragging the movie onto the timeline within the program, then clipping bits out.
