Is Wikipedia trustable?

My teacher says not to use it. There must be a reason why. I have heard rumors that it isn't trustable.

There are so many wrong answers here it's difficult to know where to start . . .
Wikipedia has been found to have fewer errors per page than the Encyclopedia Britannica. So said the CEO on the Charlie Rose show PBS. (there's my ref. Go look it up) If you spend a great deal of time learning about Wikipedia you will come to the realization that it's not just a bunch of knuckle heads goofing around. Every subject is discussed and quibbled over. Every image is scrutinized. For example look at the Einsteins theory of Relativity article. Debates over the words used to classify Einstein's Relativity Theory as one kind or another went on for months between actual working theoretical physicists.
When someone makes a change to a page. All the authors of that page are notified. If your change is malicious you will find your privileges quickly removed and the page returned to it's previous condition. It's a simple undo and you are gone. Not like here Yahoo Answers where people come to troll for months.
The reason your teacher says don't use Wiki is because she is not familiar with it's content or construction. You should demand she give you reasons and documentation ie references (just like Wiki requires) She won't I suspect because she is a teacher and it would be a great deal of work to discredit Wiki. Much easier to state, It's not reliable because I'm a teacher and I know these things. Try putting that in the paper your writing. (See below for the example to use)

Yes, i use wikipedia for many school projects, research, homework..etc

I would say so, and it's updated with new info all the time.

I use it all the time, whenever I don't have to cite info. My teachers say Wikipedia can't be trusted, but I've never seen any mistakes or errors in there, and have made the point to double check in different sources.

yes, it helps find info for projects and lots other stuff

What do you mean?Spyware or Adware? I have learn many things from Wikipedia. For me ,it is the best solution for me when i have problem with my homework. xD

ANY FOUND BETTER THAN WIKI

yes it is but not all the time, because the wikipedia articles are accurate and it is written by the different contributors around the globe. actually it is detailed.....

for me no im sorry tho

The only reason why your teacher says not to use it is that anybody can post any information on there and you wouldn't know if it was right. My teachers tell me we can start to look on Wikipedia for informatmion to get started, but to make sure I compare that information to other sources. And that information is totally find another source. Is someone wanted to know what the word "improve" was, they could say it means to get worse at something and posted that onto Wikipedia.

Yes and no.
Most of the stuff for school projects is. But I would not trust it for controversial subjects since people can change the information. Patrick Stump(lead singer of Fall Out Boy) had a problem with his Wikipedia for a while because someone went on and said quite a few untrue things about him. For instance the person said he was a transsexual, which he is not. So you can decide if you want to trust the site.

i use it all the time. if you're that concerned just double-check the info. Maybe she means some of it is taken out of context. If that is the case, read it yourself by clicking onthe citation link.

It's trustable most of the time.

However there are sometimes people who try to contribute false information.

Wikipedia is my bible. It may not be factually correct 100% of the time, but no where else can u find that much information about everything imaginable.

Seriously though it is gettin much better and experts are stating that it is now far more trustworthy than before as they are making editing rules more strict and not allowing anyone to edit major pages such as "microsoft" or "hillary clinton"

Your teacher said not to use it because it will give you every answer ---the full story of what you are looking for and that isnt much work is it?lol....WIKIPEDIA IS MY BIBLE!!!!!!!!!! LMAO! I love it, swear by it...

Personally, I love to use Wikipedia to look up information about pop culture and TV shows.
However, I tend to shy away from it for more important things such as school projects just because of the honest fact that ANYONE can edit the information. Plus, nowadays most teachers forbid you to use it as a source on a research paper.

You never know, anyone can put ANYTHING they want on it, because its a free and open, effortless source....I would steer away from it

I know some people that post false informations in Wikipedia. Some of there are still there.

So take be carefull with Wikipedia. There are a lot of vandalism and false information there. Do not trust wikipedia.

It is, there are rumors about it, but there are many people who work for Wiki that make sure the Wikipedia articles have resources that are accurate and aren't from websites like Freewebs or whatever. Wikipedia is completely trustworthy, they don't accept opinions or bullsheet.

no its not. its not accurate anyone can go on wikipedia and change things around. dont u ever notice the small links "edit". you can use it but you have to have some other more relaiable source to compare or for back-up.
