Would you trust wikipedia? |
i'm doing an assignment and don't know whether to trust the information on wikipedia or not? Use it only as a guide, it is NOT an accepted source for academic papers at many institutions. While the information is generally accurate, I'd suggest scrolling down to the bottom where they list their references, and get the information right from the source instead. i completely trust wikipedia ... just make sure that the information in there is updated.... you should be fine Yes, trust it. If it's for a major thing than yes, of course. Countless University students use it. Yes, it is the most reliable resource on the internet. I usually don't trust the wiki itself, best to look at the citations and the links for a direct reference. my teach in college said that we cant use it because its not reliable its not real info. people like me or you cant post things on it....i trust it for personal use though. wikipedia is a good overview type site but not good to cite as a source. In a majority of my college classes students cannot cite wikipedia as a source. my advice to you is read whatever article as a starting point but then research it more using a library's database. trust it, but don't tell your teachers that's what you're using. Ive heard not to , but it is so tempting. At least double check it My number one site for facts as oppose to opinion I trust Wikipedia 110% its never let me down before but if your doing an assignment for school i know that most proffessors will not accept wikipedia as one of your sources. so it really depends on your teacher wether or not they will accept wikipedia as your source when you cite it. but if it were up to me i completely trust it its never let me down when i use it. heck it always answers all my random questions i think of when im bored If the information is sourced and I can view the source (as in sourced from another webpage) and verify that the source is legitimate. It's too easy for people to edit anything on Wikipedia, and, if the information posted isn't sourced, it's not as easy to verify the validity of the content. Sourced statements on Wikipedia will have a superscript number after the statement, sentence or paragraph. Click on that number and it will take you to the bibliography entry stating where the information is from. Sourced, you can probably trust it. Unsourced, I'd be wary and try to find information somewhere else. I think it's ok for some basic overviews and basic research. But, I wouldn't use it as a reference for a paper. You truly need to dig a little deeper than that (in most cases). It's not really trustworthy because it's not always objective and the contrubutors are not always knowledgeable. yes i do ANYONE can edit wikipedia, so be careful. If you cite it at a university, you'll be laughed out of class, or your school is a joke. nope I don't trust it one simple reason, any and everyone can edit the information. Most college professors won't accept your research if it is from wiki i trust it General facts maybe. But not on complicated topics like diseases or AIDS I trust it to point the right direction for most things but after reading this http://www.pcauthority.com.au/feature.as... australian magazine article about how the articles are written, its like knowing what goes on in restaurant kitchens. Its 6 pages. I do trust it. It's one of the best resource you can have.=) No way. I always find big mistakes there. There a lot of articles with small vandalism that nobody knows. yes trust with your llife It depends. Check the page history to see how popular the article is. I wouldn't trust it blindly. It's a good point to start research, but it shouldn't be your only source of information. |
