Why do you use Wickipedia if it's not a reliable source? |
There are so many relaible sources on the intrernet...why would you use Wikipedia? Wikipedia (as well as Britannica, and other such sources) is not meant for use when working on school projects or research in high school and especially not appropriate in college, when your really need to use more scholarly sources. It's also not meant to be used for medical advice and such situations. But, articles usually have a list of references and links that can point you in the right direction. For example, an article Cancer, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer, has a list of numerous scholarly research articles, a list of recommended books, links to the World Health Organization, American Cancer Society, and other such sources for more information. It's a good starting point. On the otherhand, if you want to learn about a movie or television show, then what Wikipedia says is probably good information and reliable enough. sorry i didnt get to finish my rating thing its pretty reliable. i don't its good to use to get a general idea of a subject before you try to do more research Don't know..I use google It gives people a general idea, so they know what to search for. I don't, I hate wikkipedia for that very reason, but I would have to say people are lazy. Half of everything on wikkipedia is wrong. That's not opinion, it's proven fact. I think it's pretty reliable. i use it because its somewhere where I can get an idea about a event/thing/[person. It also some times has helpful links at the bottom because i like it. you dont anybody can change it Because it's easy.. Sometimes I use it just to get a general idea because it has such a variety of information. But I always confirm with other sources. because im not using it for a paper or formal write-up Because it's organized in an easy to use, easy to read way so as to get the information we want quickly. I think it is Wikipedia IS a reliable source! There are source lists on the bottom of every Wikipedia entry. Also the things are monitored so everytime someone changes something, they double check it. Because Wikipedia is so easy to use and it has every topic!! You have to search for reliable sources that have your topic. and it gives you the big picture. I usually use it to find the basic information which helps me research my topic on reliable sources. Wikipedia is reliable for me, of course anyone can go there and write an article, but the whole internet is like that! it has huge definitions and pictures and almost everything you search it has. I USE GOOGLE.COM Is there really a reliable source, aside from your own whitnessing? It IS reliable. They made a comparison once with Britannica and the difference was almost nonexistent! You can't actually change anything in Wikipedia... it's accurate enough for me, and it's convenient. Well, Wikipedia isn't a reliable source since it allows users with a Wiki account to change information given. Due to this, the information on Wiki might not always be true. Where do you think the Wikipedia info comes from? Who claims it is not a reliable source? I'd trust it over "Ted's Surefire Nalledge Paige" Define reliable source? Every source you get comes from a human and since all humans make mistakes and have opinions you could say that every source isn't necessarily reliable. The great thing a Wickipedia is that you are getting so many sources that the truth usual comes out in the end which makes it better than any single source. until it's not related to politics, religion, money or sensible topics linked with politics, religions, or money, it is reliable. wikipedia is very useful because it's easy to use, but it's not the top choice when doing school projects. no 1 seriously does. |
