How come wikipedia is available for editing by any person?

what if someone decided to delete every page in wikipedia? what if someone added wrong info? why? why?

It's open source to help it grow exponentially. There are far more people adding good content than those trying to add erroneous listings. People who like to share their knowledge in a particular field will create fantastic articles for people to get a better understanding of a specific topic.

Although teachers will not let students cite Wikipedia as a form of education, most of the major pages will include links to outside information, including several credible sources.

If Wikipedia was closed, then it would take years to produce the same information that can be added in a single week with people adding valuable information. Keep in mind that users caught vandalizing the listing will have their IP address banned. This limits the amount of false information. I hope this helps to understand the concept behind Wikipedia.

They just made it that way. Although it's stupid I must say, it was made that way.

Because it's a wiki.

Cause it's frustrating to see a mistake and awesome to publish ur ideas on a web site! Winki isn't a good site for reaserch, though it's flawed.

It is so that new information can be added and updated, and they can't delete them all, any page deleted has to be approved for deletion, and if wrong info is added, then other users remove it, i am one of those, i remove incorrect or unsourced information, and add new and sourced information. i work with Wikiproject: Avatar: The Last Airbender, and in that project, me and a few others maintain the quality of the information, and we all started out as just 'any person' editing.

called public access lmaoooo

One of the nice things about Wikipedia is the fact that even though you have a couple of idiots out there who want to spoil things for everyone else, there are hundreds if not thousands of people patrolling the Wiki pages - and commonly fix mistakes, or deliberate vandalisation before the majority of users even become aware of it.

Also, Wikipedia pages have a backup system, so even if a page is completely mutilated and/or deleted, it can pretty easily be restored.

because if a whole bunch of people give theyre input, they'll have a more diverse coverage of things. There are administraitors that monitor stupid things people do.
but think about this site. Why are the questions answerable by anyone? Why arent yahoo employees answering our questions? Its the same idea
