Wikipedia's info source right?

Apparently theres an editing tool that allows you to change information on the page. So is wikipedia's info actually right or wrong?

Since Wikipedia is open for editing, there are some erroneous listings, however they will block any IP address that is caught vandalizing any of the content. I would follow the links provided at the bottom of the Wikipedia article to verify any information you wish to know the answer of.

Studies have shown that the information on wikipedia is as accurate as the information in the encyclopedia brittanica. Wiki's very good at keeping accurate info.

Depends. Most of it is right. Abuse is reported and fixed quickly most of the time and abusers are IP banned. I use this as a quick source of information but if something sounds questionable, then I'll look elsewhere.

But I mean, say you are looking for the Literacy rate of people in Tajikistan, and it says 97.5% as opposed to the correct 99.5%, is anyone really gonna know the differance?

I did hear that the fact that Britian won the American Revolution was on Wiki for 2 years.

Wikipedia's information can be inaccurate unfortunately, as well as biased - depending on the article's creator and the topic of the article.

Articles also get vandalised quite often, so information that was accurate 5 minutes ago could be wrong while you are on the page, only to be fixed 5 minutes after you left.

That being said, Wikipedia is a very valuable source of information, but verification of the facts you find on Wikipedia would be a good idea ... always check the links at the bottom of the article as well.

I use Wikipedia all the time.
Yes, sometimes random people will vandalize the site, but you shouldn't worry about it too much. Wikipedia's mods are usually editing out the vandalizism, and the site's easy to use. I use it practically every day, they always seem to have my answers.
And yet some people will edit their own article if they have one, and that can lead to confusion from the truth, or they revise to have the way they like it. You know, complimenting something their horrible at, etc...

Wikipedia is a very nice research site, unfortunately it isn't the most reliable source of information due to the fact it enables uses to change information.

Sometimes it is wrong and sometimes accurate enough.
This is because anyone can change the contents of it but the true creators and editors of the website do cleanups monthly or even daily and check if the information in it is relevant, appropriate and accurate. Some information gets past this cleanups and edits so that some information which is irrelevant and inaccurate can be seen in the contents

Since anyone can edit it, I wouldn't use it as your last source of info. They do try to monitor the pages but since there is so many, they can't monitor them all. So they mainly focus on big or controversial topics.
