What should be done when WIkipedia LIES?

On one Wikipedia article, about the USS Liberty incident, II found that the writer of the encyclopedia article had LIED about the underlying source. He claimed that the US Court of Inquiry had determined that there was radar jamming during the USS Liberty incident, in Finding Number 48. I followed the link and read the report, and there was (a) NO mention of any radar jamming, (b) NO finding Number 48. It was a total lie. But there it was on Wikipedia. Is there any remedy when we catch outright lies on Wikipedia? How do we know how many other statements on Wikipedia are lies?

you can edit his content by setting yourself up with an account

As long as it continues to be run the way it is now, lies and misinformation won't go away. You could contact whoever is in charge of the site but I wouldn't guarantee that any action would be taken to remedy the situation.

It annoys me to no end when everyone says "look it up on Wikipedia for the correct information". Wikipedia is not the gospel truth and it should never be taken as such.

Remember that websites change, which is why a date should be given for references. What you have found may be an incorrect reference, if you believe this, you can simply click the 'edit' link at the top of the article to change it; no setting-up of an account is necessary.

People often say that Wikipedia cannot be trusted because anyone can edit it, but people forget the facts:

- If you asked someone off the street a question, then this is no more accurate then Wikipedia; in fact it is far less accurate.
- Many people check the list of updated articles and check for problems.
- Wikipedia has a huge amount of traffic and anyone can fix errors.
- References must be stated (I know you found a problem with this).

People forget that anyone can make a website (Free and easy) and then they don't usually even state references, not like WIkipedia. If someone finds an error on another website, no one can fix it.

Wikipedia doesn't LIE......millions of PEOPLE like you and i edit that site and any article they want to wth a different opinion. its your choice if you believ it. but know that nothing on wikipedia is 100% trustworthy....like every other site on the internet it has its flaws

Just edit the article to make it the truth.

Wikipedia, like any user-driven program, is open to error. Which is why you should not rely on it. Interesting? Sure. Accurate? No.

This goes for Yahoo Answers too. I like it, I use it, I usually try to provide correct answers to questions. But I know I've been wrong in the past and probably will in the future. I usually label my answers with "in my opinion" or "I think". Then it's up to you to decide if I'm right or wrong.

As for answers to my Yahoo Questions: I've received some very good answers and have appreciated the info. And I've received some very bad answers and discarded them.

Remember, when you ask for free advice, you sometimes get what you pay for.

That depends on what the article is about, like if it is a joke that may hurt someone take the statement off. If it is about something not too important like a movie it doesn't matter too much...
