Why would you ask a question in Yahoo! Answers without first looking in Wikipedia?

Why would you ask a question in Yahoo! Answers without first looking in Wikipedia?

I'd ask a question here if i wanted opinions.
I'd surf the net or ask an expert if i wanted fact.

Pure laziness.

We've been to Wikipedia. Now we want a second opinion.

i like yahoo more and u get a straight answer instead of lots of stuff u dont wana know! =)

want the opinion of real people not just a definition

I think they should get to know Google, personally. Perhaps they already did and wanted to see what real "people" would say.

I've often wondered this. It's always funny when someone asks a question, then someone else cut-and-pastes a Wiki reference in reply. I actually think it's more work asking a Yahoo question than looking it up...maybe they are lonely??

because wikipedia does not provide answers as responsive as Yahoo! Answers

So someone else can do the research and get 2 or 10 points.

Maybe they like th participation with others ....

don't always trust it.

I know it makes my wonder why people dont google it first, cause lets face it.... the answers are very easy to find

It's a syndrome called idleitis. Some even go so far as to ask others to google for them.

Wikipedia is good only for General Information. If you are searching for general info you can use Wiki no doubt.

Yahoo Answers is for some personal queries. Questions like what to do and not to do vary for people and so Yans (yahoo answers) is used.

More to the point is "Why look in Wiki at all?" - it's full of mistakes, some entered in error, some maliciously, and certainly is NOT to be relied upon simply because any old Tom, Dick and Harry can make entries and alterations making it about as much use for a REAL answer as this site is if you're honest! If you REALLY want proper info, go to something like Google, Encarta, or get yourself a decent encyclopaedia ! ! ! (<My spelling, not Yahoo's yankee way!)

People like to interact. Although we cannot see each other, we are in a circle answering your question. Some answers are good and some are bad, that's life. But at least it's real and as someone else said, you are not just getting a definition, you are getting opinions from people who are alive, apart from me.

I've often wondered. But Wikipedia doesn't know everything - one of the best answers I got was code numbers from a newspaper to watch episodes 2 and 3 on the dvd they gave away

I love Wikipedia.
Wiktionary too use that a lot also.

A College Lecturer did say it is unreliable ... it's not allowed in colleges or schools.

Sometimes we are looking for some original thought.

because a lot of the info you get on wikipedia is bogus. people who have absolutely no idea about the subject are making entries there.

because wikipedia has just as many unverified sources as yahoo answers does...oh and answers is prettier...and awards points...and...and...and...ill get my coat!!

I've often wandered this on some questions, but maybe it's the "human" interaction of YA. After all nobody is forcing anyone to answer. You can spend some time going through the web in search of an answer.
And the trouble with any encyclopedias, is serendipity. I always end up looking at something completely different than I intended to.

Many folk aren't aware of the existence of the Wikipedia website. As popular as it is, you would think that they would know, but still, there are folk that don't know.

people (idiots) edit it

Forget wikipedia, it only has "mentionable things" not necessarily helpful answers to questions. I think they should at least search something like google - or even read the related topics that show up when you write in your question.

I also wonder why people are so vague in their questions, like : "myspace question...?" under the myspace heading....it's like duh, what is your question though. At least give me some hint as to what it's referring to.

People just won't learn - I do like answering and asking questions, but I would prefer it if people wouldn't ask the same ones hundreds of times.

Why would you first look in wikipedia without asking a question in Yahoo! Answers?

if you search on wikipedia, if you look at the top, it says, "edit this page". People will edit it. So some answers are wrong.
