Is it safe to add stuff to wikipedia?

i put something in an article for fun. It is factual stuff, but it is there for a joke. Will i be penalized in a any way?

That depends on what the article is about, like if it is a joke that may hurt someone take the statement off. If it is about something not too important like a movie it doesn't matter too much. That's my opinion.

if it a fact i dont think it willl hurt you. if it is mean delete it but maby they will.

Yes, you will usually be penalized. If it wasn't especially harmful, someone will probably just leave a comment on your talk page. If it is more serious, or you do it repeatedly, you could be blocked.

My tutor set a trap for his 1st year students one year. He set them an essay on Mary, Queen of Scots and then changed details on Wikipedia about her. When he got the essays in, about half of them had the wrong information he had put on the website. Hehe - shows the importance of actually doing reading! lol

That's why I don't like Wikipedia - you can say anything on there and someone else could ake it as fact.
