On 11/9/07, Wikipedia will legalize anonymous page creation. Is this a good idea?

Wikipedia is on the verge on reinstating anonymous page creation, which was disabled about 2 years ago when an anonymous user slandered a journalist, causing a scandal.

Wikipedia is routinely overwhelmed with articles by teenagers promoting their band that hasn't even performed yet or their girlfriend or smearing somebody whom they dislike. Currently, such people have to wait 4 days to create article, which means that they may be able to find out that Wikipedia doesn't want vanity articles, only articles about notable subjects.

However, the Articles for Creation page has been a disaster and Wikipedia may have lost many good articles as a result of the policy.

So, do you think it is a good idea or not? It is going to be up for review in a month and can be repealed if it causes alot of problems.

They're quite literally asking for trouble. They shall find what they seek.

Its OK, but anonymous users should have to accept some sort of a agreement before creating a new page.

i think its all a matter of opinion. i have mixed views, i belive it could be both a good and a bad thing. it depends on the way these privlages are used. it also depends on how mutch people abuse them

I think it is a very bad Idea. Wikipedia gets enough vandals as it is having anonymous IP Edits. If you feel you need to create a page, take a few seconds to register an account, and save us Wikipedians a headache.
