Why doesn't wikipedia get rid of the notability policy?

Its stupid! Basically its a little note saying that if 5000 people haven't heard of it yet it should be deleted. I don't think that vanity has a place on Wikipedia but the notability policy is a little to far.

I am OK with Notability... I don't expect to be notable. I have known a few people who probably are, and they are not at Wikipedia.

But 5,000 people is a pretty small number. While not notable, I probably am known by a tiny number of people like 5,000.

Let's say that you have a unique Yahoo name, like me. Try doing a GOOGLE search on your Yahoo name. Are these ALL YOU? My Google count probably is.

about 24,800 for danuitti

How about 5,049 Best Answers? NAAA, that's not very notable.

But still, I don't that that is very notable.

So I did a google search on your Yahoo name.
"about 4,350 for smartbagel" Maybe that is not so notable either.

But I recommend that you Aim for FAME.

Wait a minute... I know this girl
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi_Alice...

The google search says:
about 101,000 for Heidi Alice Voight

But I also know this girl
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzanne_Eng...
google search says: about 843 for Suzanne Engo

So maybe I don't have a good test.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Notability is one of the most controversial and vague policies of Wikipedia. Team taggers and propaganda spreaders have used this loophole to turn information in their own favor. Hindu extremists is one example.
