How accurate is the information on Wikipedia? |
How accurate is the information on Wikipedia? Wikipedia is getting better at monitoring the stuff being added, but I remember one reporter in Tennessee, USA as a joke rewriting the JFK Assassination Page to implicate his boss as having something to do with it. Its not very accurate at all. Average at best. The information on any subject can be altered by just about anyone. Since it is a user based site, anyone can come along and add or edit the information on the articles. It can be an excellent source, but it is not always right. Lets put it this way if a baby knew how to use a computer he could change the info The information is surprisingly accurate. If somebody edits an article with false information, Wikipedia moderators will find out and change it back. It's as unreliable as any information on the internet. At University students are encouraged to use book references rather than the interent as a book has a publisher behind it and has therefore been peer-reviewed, edited, screened for inaccuracies and scrutinised. However internet websites are self-published. i think its pretty acurate and they dont always have an answer but the when i need to check sumthin Wikipedia always works perfectly for me its accurate. accurate enough usually accurate but anyone can change it Not very accurate. Some articles claim to be certified true, but that's doubtful. It's usually pretty difficult to ascertain the accuracy of information on Wikipedia unless you're an expert on the topic you're researching. Generally, though, I've found that Wikipedia is good at correcting vandalism in a timely manner, though mistakes sometimes go unnoticed. I usually use Wikipedia for a brief overview of a subject or to help me figure out other search terms I can use to search for a topic in books. For facts, like there are 40 sweater companies in Argentina, I'd think it's pretty accurite. For more opinionated articles, I wouldn't trust it. The example given above is absurd. When it comes to details, Wikipedia can be very inaccurate at times. But don't tell that to the Wikipedia fanboys, because it hurts their feelings. They might get offended. They only mention the Nature study, but they never mention Britannica's refutation of it. |
