Can kids get in trouble for editing their school's wikipedia page?

a bunch of kids in my school have gotten together and edited the school's page. it's all clearly lies and some of it is a little obscene (cocaine, firearms, masturbation.) I don't think there's really any curse words or anything worse than what i just stated, but could they get in trouble?

There are two kinds of "trouble" here: Academic and Legal. In the United States the 1st amendment in theory protects speech like this, so these kids probably will not get in legal trouble.

However if the school is tech-savvy and finds out who did this, the kids will definitely be in a lot of trouble and might be suspended.

ha ha maybe..

well, if they dont have the permission to do it (i bet they dont) and if the teachers know what happen and who the one do that to the website, they'll be angry

If they wrote lies and are obscene about it then it might get them in trouble. I think its up to the school to punish or not but wikipedia should take note and take down the page. If it says something damaging about another person or mentions names, then there could be legal issues with that. I have heard recently on the news about how law enforcement is using internet blogs, myspace, and facebook as a means of evidence. It is public, so just be wary.

ahhhah. this happened to my school.
wikipedia blocked my whole school's access to their site. the kids who did it were found out and suspended, our principle was pisssssed. theyll more than likely be found out because somehow they had an odd way of figuring it out. the ppl who were found out had to write an appology letter to wikipedia so we could get our access back haha. good luck :]

No im pretty sure Wikipedia goes through all of their pages that people have created and make sure there is no obscene remarks about anything.

If vandalism is coming from school computers and it continues Wikipedia administrators will block the IP address of the school from editing Wikipedia articles alltogether. As to what would happen with the kids responsible, if the system administrators have the knowledge and software they will find out who did it and they would get in trouble most likely.

The school's info shouldn't be inserted into wikipedia. But if the editing content is correct it will not get into trouble.
