What do you think about the reliability of Wikipedia?

What do you think about the reliability of Wikipedia?

I like to use Wikipedia for my first line of research as they often have links to more authoritative sources. But I never rely on it as a sole source of data as it is editable by anyone who wants to add, subtract or alter data. For the most part, though, I've found that secondary, autoritative sources generally agree with the Wiki entries.

i have used it for projects for years now and i have NEVER gotten points taken off for incorrect information. I would use it any day.

Take it with a grain of salt. Anyone can edit it..

Its usually pretty good but keep in mind whenever your doing some serious research on a topic you always want to make sure to check several sources not just one.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia collaboratively written by many of its readers. It is a special type of website, called a wiki, that makes collaboration easy. Many people are constantly improving Wikipedia, making thousands of changes an hour, all of which are recorded on article histories and recent changes. Inappropriate changes are usually removed quickly, and repeat offenders can be blocked from editing.

That's what they say. However, your edits fall under the scrutiny of the Wikipedia Admins, and if they don't like what you write (even if it is true and accurate) they delete it.

The "anyone can edit" is really fake. You can edit - they delete.

And, the Wikipedia Admins, are like those 300 pound fat guys you see on TV that sit on the Internet 24/7 as "keyboard warriors" - They live solely to delete your Wiki edits.

Therefore, I don't believe everything I read on Wikipedia. It's really just what the Wiki Admins want the world to believe is true. a.k.a. A cult .

I would never use it as a sole source for info.

What's the alternative? Thought police?

The government is always willing to squander a trillion dollars on something but don't give them any ideas.

It's actually accurate most of the time.
Now you'll say, "ANYBODY CAN EDIT IT!"
Exactly. Anyone can correct it too.

Pure garbage. Only an elite of users have a final say and can block any page they want if they don't like the information in the article. So these unqualified users have the power to boot any user they don't agree with and lock any articles that they think is perfect.

Coupled with the fact that only a few normal users can agree on a article and keep it the way they like it.

Wikipedia isn't about what's right, it's about what the majority of people think is correct. But then again, an elite of none qualified users always have the final say.

No accountability what so ever.

works for me most of the time, although sometimes I may have to rephrase my search.

i use wikipedia for personal research, such as when i'm bored and feel like looking something random...like south park :D

however, i use caution when using it for research when dealing with homework assignments. i love wikipedia but with homework, i try to avoid using it if at all possible.
