Is Wikipedia a reliable source? |
I have heard that Wiki is not a reliable source, but there aren't anymore other encyclopedias on the Internet that I can find. If you could provide me with a site like Wiki, that would be immensely helpful. Thanks. Wikipedia has been known in any formal education institution for exhibiting systemic bias and inconsistency; they argue that Wikipedia's open nature and a lack of proper sources for much of the information makes it unreliable. no. the material is submitted by anyone. Wikipedia is a great site for info. The catch to it is that one can make public changes on the website, so there can be a tangling of certain info. Some famous people, things, or places don't even have pages on wiki, so one can get a downer time to time. no No, anyone can edit and put wrong info onto wiki articles, and I really don't know any other online encyclopedias XP sorry. Depending on the subject, Wikipedia has been found pretty accurate, but when it comes to more emotional, business, or political entries, you'll need to dig more in depth. Several entries were found to be "sanitized" by companies and governments lately when a scanner for edits was used (see the last link below for the tool itself). wikipedia, is and okay site for like certain things like looking up cartoon info, but for actual stuff like for school I suggest and actual encyclopedia site, but sadly I dont no anyother sites, sry, You're right about Wiki not being very reliable because I could go on there right now and edit an article to say something totally random. People post information on there that is not always accurate. heck ya i love it Wikipedia is a reliable source. Sure, there are plenty of wiki projects on the web, like WikiHow, Bulbapedia, and iPodWiKi, but there is only one Comprehensive Encyclopedia Wiki, and that's Wikipedia. So No luck in that department. No it is not unless the pages have reliable links. If they do then wikipedia can be a good starting point. mostly. some articles need more info. and some things dont have articles on them. The Wikimedia foundation says that you should NEVER use the wikipedia as a reliable source. You should double check with a regular source before treating wikipedia info as fact. There is no information on the internet that is entirely reliable because anyone could have put it there and the same goes for wikipedia. But I've heard that it is about 75% as accurate as the Britanica encyclopedias.. which is pretty good for the internet. yes its reliable but not dependaple for something really importants like gor ur job for fun dough its good information because anyone can write an article not at all No. Wikipedia, is like yahoo answers. Anyone can add anything to it, and say whatever without having to prove where they got/did their research. Wikipedia is often as (and sometimes more) accurate as electronic versions of paper encyclopedias. no, because any idiot or person can go and put wrong info and i copied some of the info on their be4 i knew about it and i made a bad grade......so dont use wikipedia No, because theoretically there is no author. Anyone can change the content without supervision or some source that could be trustworthy... yeah but sometimes pranksters mess up the pages wikipedia is a reliable source but if you want another one then either go here (lol) or to answers.com |
