You know you shouldnt trust wikipedia right? |
theres still people that dont know you can make up anything and post it as an article on wiki, dont believe it! well, once i checked out an article of bert from the used, and and it is completely different than it was last time i checked. plus my friend says she gets in trouble at school if she uses wikipedia. theres houndreds of articles on there! no one can have time to double check and make 100% sure theyre correct. You just use it for the basic info not as a source you use the sources on the bottom of the page not the article that is where the bad inforamtion is. They do check it though. Just double check what you find there if you do it is a good jumping off point. Sure you can make up anything, but if this article was already an important article, for example Jesus, or USA, or anything else people visit a lot, the latest revisions can be seen and instantly deleted, and you can revert to an older version of that article. most people are good people, and the admins are careful to watch out for vandalism. That's why they always ask for verifiable sources, and if there aren't, then you are warned that the article does not have verifiable sources. Those are the only times when you should not trust the article. dont the posts get reviewed and stuff ?? Yeah, but people are revising it all the time. If something is obviously wrong, I won't believe it. I remember last year when I had to do a project for school, and my teacher wouldn't let us use wikipedia because of that reason, that made me frustrated because I had to search in other places for my project. what do u mean they update it like all the time. just go all the way down to the bottom and you will see when it was last updated. No, perhaps not but the site administrators do the best they can which is really all we can and/or should ask of them. Besides, its never advisable to be too trusting in anyone or anything. it's all 100% fact you can use it Yeah yeah yeah. But, one time, me and my friend edited a article with false information, just to see what they would do. They took down our information and put up the correct info...I don't know if they do that for every article. I don't know if they go through each of there articles or just depend on the people that go to Wiki regularly. On average, WP vandalism gets removed within 5 minutes. Some articles are protected, meaning no one but administrators and higher can edit them. Some are Semi-protected, meaning new and unregistered users can not edit them. Many WPedians (myself included) make it our business to spend some of our time policing WP. Duh.Everyone posts anything on there. Don't use it as a primary research site. |
