Is BSD any good as a Desktop system compared to Linux? |
Hi, ok I know BSD is superior as a server, but what about as a Desktop? Free BSD as itself is not a good desktop system. However, if you want the speed of BSD + the Desktop PC-BSD is awesome as a desktop system. I would go with that till you are ready to make the switch. I tryed PC BSD for a bit it seemed to be pretty good, I would prefer mainstreem linux though. they had a nice little software portal that helped out quite a bit it was stable on my desktop that it was setup on. so in genral I would say its OK . It was one of the few distros I could install on my IBM R31 laptop but it would crash all the time The desktop is as good or as lousy as the developers make it. PC-BSD, when I tried it, was a nice, if boring, environment. It uses KDE. RoFreeSBIE, a BSD LiveDVD, also uses KDE. |
