Is there a photoshop for macs?

Photoshop is available for Macs. In fact, when Photoshop was originally developed, the Mac version was way ahead of the version for PCs.

And yes, any version of Photoshop is something you have to pay for.

You have several options: you can get Photoshop CS3 the latest and most expensive version; unless you are planning to be a professional photographer or artist/graphic designer you probably do not need it. You also have to have an adequate system (running at least Tiger 10.4.x and 1 GB of RAM).

Photoshop Elements 6 finally came out for the Mac, it is quite decent and for most people it will do just fine. It's a lot less expensive than full Photoshop. You can buy it from Amazon.com for about $83 vs. $630 for full Photoshop CS3 (standard) or almost $900 for the Extended version.

A third option, if you are a student, is to get the student license version of Photoshop, which is a full version for educational purposes. Check with your school to see if they can help you purchase this. If not, you can still buy it from academic resellers like JourneyEd.com or AcademicSuperStore. You will have to prove you are a student, but that's not too hard. This will cost between $200 and $300.

And if you can't afford to buy any version, there is a version of Gimp for Mac, it's a little hard to figure out, but it is legal and free.

Also for any of these, remember they are just tools. It is what you are willing to take the time to learn and explore that will make what you do with them good.
