Is it safe to use a torrent program on my mac?

i want to download a torrent program on my mac but my friend says there is a 25 percent chance u can get fined for using a torrent by your internet company. Please answer!!

Noooo, You're not going to get fined, but torrents aren't always safe, so be careful! Government companies can't download, install, or have any torrents on their computers, so if that's a good clue... I just wouldn't do it, stick with .zip files

yes. you shouldn't have any problems.

Its near impossible to get traced for using torrents.

but you need to make sure the torrent program such as BitTorrent, Is mac enabled

=]

yep.
yoiu should not have any issues with it.

If you're scared of getting caught by using a torrent, rest assured. How often does a police officer or government agent come to your house?

Also, you are using a Mac, has hardly no are very little viruses known for it.

Bottom line: Just be careful. For example, download torrents with high amounts of seeds. It means people have downloaded it (which, through assumption, means it's safe) and the download rate is much faster =]. Also take the time to read comments. If people say a virus is on the torrent...DONT DOWNLOAD IT.

Simple as that.
Hope this helps

why would the internet company have any problem with torrents. any way u can I have a MAC & I downlad but from torrents usin limewire which is really pathetic I'm not really shure if there is a bitcomet in MAC on the other hand I hav windows in my MAC so I download bitcomet there. Most applications o the net are Windows based so why don't u put windows in a MAC where u can use Mac & PC in one desktop. it is better but its ur choice.

It is no safer than using a program like limewire or kazaa or using a torrent program on windows. Although the chances in getting caught are probably much less than 25% that is if you are downloading copyrighted material that you should be paying for (there is a lot of software, music, videos, and other files being freely legally distributed via bittorrent). I would actually be more concerned about viruses, spyware, and malware than being fined. So like an other peer-to-peer software use at your own discression.
