Microsoft updates?

i got a new laptop for christmas and its windows vista.
Its got microsoft works on it and when i try to take some of my college work from my memory stick onto my laptop it wont work because what i have on my laptop is an older version than what is on my memory stick.

Is there any updates i can download for free on the internet, so i can get microsoft word/excel/powerpoint on my laptop?

If not, how would i go about getting these?

Help please!
I need two assignments done by wednesday!

thankyouuu :)

I cringed when u said Windows Vista! I still have XP... Nevertheless, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai... to get updates for Win Vista. Also, u can get a free office suite at http://www.openoffice.org/ Good luck on ur assignments!

Try downloading updates from the msn.com website.

you have to check microsoft updates, and/or your USB stick manufacturer web site for updates

You can't (legally) get MS Office other than by buying it.

OpenOffice is very similar and is legally free. It's compatible with MS Office files: http://www.openoffice.org/

You'd probably have to update the software to the version that saved the files.

More than likely, you're using a Microsoft Office product at college. Microsoft Works doesn't have the power of Office.

You will need to purchase the version of Office you use at school. Microsoft has a deal with most colleges, where you can buy Office at a highly discounted price. Check with your campus bookstore to see if you have this option.

microsoft works and microsoft office are two different things, and they are not alway backwards compatible. Usually if you save something in word processor(works) and then open it in word (office) it will work fine, but when you try to do it the other way around, thats is when you'll run into trouble.

I'm guessing that your school uses Office which is not cheap software, really the only thing that you can do is buy office if you want things to work both ways (and im sure you do).

Usually microsoft office cost about $500. but some colleges will offer discounts, you can try campusestore.com I bought mine there for like $80.

hope this helps

MS Works does not normally support excel/powerpoint (you can only download viewers from Microsoft but you can't create or edit) that is only available on business or student systems 'word' should be ok you may have to buy a student package these i have seen around for under 拢100 Sorry I can't help more but I have the same problem with documents from work and this seems to be my only solution

Regards

Hi i think i have found an alternative solution

http://www.thinkfree.com/common/main.tfo...

copy and paste the above url you can upload your original docs and edit them on line no need to find new programs and you can access them where ever you want

You can download a trail version, but at the end of the trial you must pay and get the unlock key. Now here is another tip. Check with your school and see if they have a distribution key to unlock the program. You have to buy the program and unless you can install it on another computer you have to buy a key for each one. When I got my Word program from my school I found out I could put it on up to 2 computers. My XP Pro was for only 1, can't tell the dif anyway. By the way that is not a update you can download. It is software. You can get the basic Word to the Professional it only takes money. You can also go to WalMart and buy the software.

HEY listen........

u can simply download d all new version of windows office 4 free... at "katz.cd"....... its free... just keep patience while downloading. so enjoy........... n best of luck for ur assignment...

You cannot get commercial software from my buddies a MICROSUCK for free. You should type openoffice in your browser's search bar. Then you will find a free alternative to office that can open microsoft formats.
