Help me, is it all deleted!?!?!?

so i wanted to take a folder of ALL of my pictures and put it into a compressed folder so i can put a password on it so other ppl couldn't see my pics, and i cutted it and pasted it in the compressed folder, then it said the folder was corrupted and the folder called Pics which had every picture ive ever taken basically wasnt there on my desktop anymore! is it gone forever?

When you say cut some files then they are removed from their original location and stored in temporary memory to be moved into other location, and then you will notice that paste option is enabled.

now lets focus to the core of the issue. your files that you have said CUT will remain in the temporary memory till the time a paste command is given, once new command is given then previouse contents will no more remain in the temporary location, you know why because it was CUT commands ( cut means transfer from one location to another) if it would have been copy then (even if you copy it n times , still a copy remain in the memory till the time next copy contents overwrite it ).

What you have did is that when you applied cut command all the pictures were removed originally from their location and stored in that memory location and when you pasted in the compressed folder then everything is flashed out from the memory and hence nothing remains in the memory and due to some hard disk sector problem or not successfull transfer your folder also got corrupted.

usually there is a way out to get what you want. i will give you one way and try , if you were lucky then you will get your pictures back , else you have to search for the alternatives . . . .

there is a software called file recovery ,
it is used to recover any data type of file, which you need to specify and you can select options like deleted or some other . . . so download this software and select the options for the pictures ( JPEG, JPG, format of your picture ) and then say serach/recover. it will recover you to many files and check inside if your pics are there or not . .

Move the compressed folder from your documents to the desktop then try and open it from there, that should work then move your folder out of the compressed one.

I think you will be able to paste it somewhere else if it is still in your clipboard.

Run chkdsk:

open a command prompt and type:
chkdsk c: /r

You might have to reboot...if there is a problem with the file, that should fix it.

Just use Recuva, a tool for restoring deleted files including from Recycle bin. It also retrieve from any removable media and including deleted by bugs, crashes and infected by viruses.
And it's free.
Always use it to restore accidental files by deletion.
