Screensaver restart issue?

Running XP, 2.4GHz, 120GB x 2

As soon as the screensaver is engaged, the computer restarts.

As soon as you try to access the screensaver options window, the computer restarts.

Is there any way to manually change or disable the screensaver without accessing the normal channels? And is there a virus or default that would be at fault for this issue? Searching the net only yielded people with ancient computers have graphics issues, which certainly isn't the case here.

Open your register editor and select
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop
Find the key named "SCRNSAVE.EXE"
Delete its value,
then run your screensaver options window..
