Our office has 10 PCs running MS Office 2000. What's the most economical way to upgrade...?

For MS office, you need a separate license for each computer.
you would have to call Microsoft, or talk to a dealer about cheapest for your number of PCs.

Also, you may want to look at openoffice.org.
They have software that can read MS documents, and create documents, and it is free. You will be missing some bells and whistles, so it depends on what you need office 2008 for, but it may be worth looking into.

Yes, you can buy 10 pack licenses. You can also buy 1 copy, and buy separate licenses (I believe this route is cheaper too). Most universities and businesses do this. Be careful with your paperwork and keep track of which machine has which license, lest you get audited.

You cant. You can buy 10 pack liscenses or atleast 5. I know that if you buy them in volume if they dont come in packs you save a little money.

First, I want to say sorry to you. There is no legal way to buy Office 2008 at a cheap price. I'm from Vietnam, and many people in my country, (maybe also in your country) can't have enough money to buy Office 2008, as it's too expensive. In the Internet there are also some called "Free Office 2008 suite", Free Microsoft Office.... But All of them ARE ILLEGAL. You don't want to be an illegal people ,right?
But you may use Openoffice.org instead. It's a FREE OFFICE SUITE that can replace office 2008 with all neccessary tools.

Office 2008 can be purchased for any given number of licenses, it is not a problem. However, if you install the newer version on all ten computers while having one user license, it would mean that you are violating the terms of use. :)

If you are looking for economical solution, see if you can switch to Open Office which is 100% free and open source and it has all the features of Microsoft Office plus it is 100% compatible.

I will try to answer all your questions:

1) If you want to buy 1 office professional. 2008 pack and install it on 10 PC...., which is possible without any problem. But would you jeopardize your company for a software license reason.....?

2) And Yes, you can buy a 10 pack license of office.

3) If the issue is financially: upgrade 5 PC with XP or Vista with Office Pro 2008 this year and upgrade the other 5 PC the year after. So, you split the cost and investment. And the support to your clients is needless. The only small problem is if your exchange information between the PC's, keep in mind the file need to be created on the older version PC's or save from the newer PC in an older version Office.
