Speeding up windows processing.?

I am in a work situation where I frequently do a series of repetative tasks. If I am in MS Excel then I can use Macros to do those tasks and that saves hours. But when I am in the Windows environment it would be nice to have a similar speedy process.

For example I get in a regular E mail in MS Outlook with the same files attached and that have to be extracted (Save attachements) from that email, stored in a specific, but the same location. I then load Excel run a macros which picks up those files and processes them. Does anyone know of a way of automating that process?

I am aware of the use of VB but that is only from within MS office applications. There is no GUI which allows for VB script being used from outside that environment such as loading and saving files in Explorer or outlook!

Visual basic was designed by Microsoft for exactly this reason. You might have it installed: some VB Scripts for that sort of thing are included on the installation disk for Office, but most people don't ever find them.
Additional VB scripts are available for free at the Microsoft website -
they are designed ton automate tasks that use one or more of the programs in Office.

This sort of thing works better with applescript on a mac, and with fewer security risks. VB scripts are nootorious - if you use one, try to get one from the Evil Empire (Microsoft) itself.

<NEW----------------------------------...
Applescript does this for the "Finder" which was the prototype for the "Windows Explorer" and the "Trash" with Applescript - which would work to automate all the functions you mention on a mac.
It would be really slick on OSX, and probably worth the investment, since Office will allow you to change over to a mac equivalent now much more easily that is used to be on the "Classic" mac OS.

I think you've come up to the limit of Windows, as most of us know it anyway.

Is this worth 10 points? I need it -:)

I'm sure Windows used to have macros too, dunno if it still does.
