Now I am facing some problems like - What to do or choose when the setup prompts me to " Mount the path i.e \, \home and many more THEN what kinda drive it should be - ext2, ext3 as eac time there is some error.
Anyway, anyhow I installed this OS but it asked me PASSWORD....that was so frustating......further MOST IMPORTANT - I didn't find rest of my drives......AND i did not know how to create a broadband connection...
Then I switched to XP again and wasted lot and lot of hours....
Please help me fellows

Linux is not a simple operating system like windows. On most machines you will have to give it some tlc to have it work with all of your hardware. The way to do this is to post on the forums for your particular distribution, and to read the manuals. Often this involves a bit of trial and error too, particularly for new users.

Having said that, not all distros are created equal in terms of simplicity of use. some are easier than others, hence the recommendation you try ubuntu (above). It is the pick of the bunch for people new to the os.

There are other variations of ubuntu (kubuntu, xubuntu, etc), depending on your specific needs. All are very good distros.

If you're not into problem solving, my suggestion is that you give linux a miss. if you like that sort of thing, install ubuntu or one of its variants and then visit forums.ubuntu.org for specialised assistance to learn to use it and to set it up properly.

It would be rare for it to install and play nice with everything / do everything you want 'out of the box'.

I would suggest ubuntu, as it is user friendly. Download from the net, burn a cd, and off you go. I have no experience with white box, but some Linux apps will drive you crazy.

If this is your first outing with Linux may I suggest something easier. I recommend Linux Mint.

The best fully loaded Linux distro with most of the software preinstalled is Linux Mint 4.0 Daryna (Main Edition). Its directly based on the immensely successful kernel of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

Its easy to install and easy to use.
