You may try aimersoft dvd ripper, I always use it to convert dvd to wmv video for windows movie maker, my friends recommend it to me, it works really nice, here is a step by step guide about it

Try iSkysoft DVD Ripper.
I use it convert dvd to iPod format files. It can convert dvd to lots of video files. Have a try.

Windows movie maker supports wmv video, you just need to convert your dvd to wmv video. If you don't know how to do that, here is a step by step guide for you
