Which Adobe Photoshop program is better for me?

I'm a high school student with the new Mac OS X and I want to buy an Adobe Photoshop program because I'm interested in photography (I'm not a professional or anything, but I do want something that I can seriously work with, not just for fun). Which program would be better for me? Photoshop CS2 (if so, where can I buy a NEW one?) or Photoshop CS3 (seems pretty cool, and you can find it at pretty mich any electronics store, but it seems like something that professionals would use more)? Links/reviews would be great!

If you are going to buy Photoshop, I suggest getting the newest version (CS3) just because it's the newest and best. It is expensive however. It's made for professionals in mind, but anybody can work it. It's simple to do easy tasks and effects, yet has the potential to do so much more when you learn it.

If you don't want to spend so much money, try Adobe Photoshop Elements. It's only $99 and is useful for the average user. However, you won't regret getting Photoshop CS3. It's a great investment and is worth every penny.

Before you buy, I might add that you should probably download the demos on Adobe's website to try the programs out for up to 30 days.

buy from adobe.com themselfs as they are usually cheapest and i think you hcan do a direct download there. CS3 is the better option as this is the latest edition of the software. CS2 is not as commonly available now as it is out of date
