So, I'm downloading a torrent, I need some help...?

Okay, So I'm downloading the sims 2.
haha don't make fun of me.
I have it on my laptop, but then I broke the screen.
and the only disk I have left is the game disk, because I lost the rest.

So, I have I think its a U? maybe not but its Utorrent 1.7.7
And it seriously took ten minutes getting 0.1% downloaded.
I'm probably doing it wrong, because I don't know what I'm doing..
so help?

What I did was I googled "the sims 2 game torrent"
I found a page with a bunch and clicked download.
So then It automatically went to my torrent.
and Its been down there doing whatever its doing ever since.

It says downloading still.
and that it has 27(104) seeds, 24(386)peers, and that my download speeds 5.7kb/s.
but now my download speeds dropped to 2.3kb/s.

I have no idea what any of this means.
could someone explain?
or tell me how to get it easier/faster.

Welcome to the wonderful world of torrents. Remember, don't pirate or you'll blah blah blah, you know the rest. The program you're using (thats a '渭', the greek letter mu, at the front) is probably the most user-friendly of the torrent-only downloaders. The problem with torrents is that it's only as fast as the people you connect to, and some torrents can take days or weeks (or forever) to download. You have three options at this point (four, if you include 'give up'):
1. Leave it be, and wait for it to slowly download (there should be an estimated time in 渭torrent's window).
2. Look online for another torrent and see if it's faster.
3. Try different software - I recommend Free Download Manager. I had both 渭torrent and FDM, and had them start the same torrent at the same time. When FDM finished, 渭torrent was at only 15%. FDM does other neat things too, but seems quite capable when downloading torrents (and includes a feature to report malicious software). Good luck!

Well your connection speed has a lot to do with this, but it also may be that you have found an unpopular torrent, so there is not a lote of people sharing, though that does not seem to be the case. Try searching for the torrent at scrapetorrent.com it searches all of the major torrent sites and lists them in order of quality, when you pick a torrent, click on it and it will link to the main site.

be warned that scrapetorrent does have some popups, but they arent dangerous, just annoying.

also if you continue to have problems, you may be using a router, im just guessing at this part. but you should probably enable port forwarding on the router so that utorrent has a better connection to the net. google port forwarding for more information.

Seeds are the people you are downloading the software from.
Peers are the other like you, trying to download it at the same time.

You all share the same file. If the speed is low, there are many reasons:

1st: Your internet is slow.
2nd: The seeds sending you the file have slow internet.
3rd: You are using a firewall that is blocking your computers ports.
4th: You are using a router that is blocking your computers ports.

1st and 2nd you cannot change the situation. At least in case 2 you can find another torrent.

3rd, disable the firewall.
4td: disable the firewall. The way to do it will differ from one router to another. You can ask a question on how to make a port forwarding on your router.

with torrents download speed is based on the amount of seeder and leachers, so because there are so many leachers(peers) downloading th same file from a smaller number of seedrs its going to take longer. There are alot of torrent sites you might just need to find a different torrent. Be careful with downloading software though, alot of time people add virus/spyware to downloads to. You'll probably just have to wait it out, I normally let downloads go overnight, and on big files sometimes it takes days.

there are a few reasons why your download is taking so long.

first off, you dont have many seeds. seeds are the people who have already completely downloaded the file and are now sharing it with you to help it download faster. the more seeds you have, the better. and where you have 27 out of the total 104 seeds, it is causing your download to go slow.

your download speed also has something to do with it. you can change the speed to make it go faster by adjusting the speed. i dont exactly remember how to do this, but whatever you do, dont change the download speed number to very high because it will make your computer run slower while utorrent is running.

also, dont think anything of it when your download speed will change from one number to another. this is normal and happens quite frequently.
