How do I pause the game Settlers (Heritage of Kings)?

I'm currently playing "settlers - heritage of kigs)"; but I can't seem to be able to pause the game, - any hints will be welcome......
I've tried the keys "Esc" and "space" - didn't work.....

I have just read the manual, page 39, press the pause key.

Can you get into any of the menu's from the HUD / Interface buttons at the bottom of the screen? I'm sure when you go into a menu that pauses the game.
