A quick question.... 10 points?

Ok, so I have windows vista and want to do a fresh install of XP, I have an ISO image of XP, can I just mount the image and install, or do I have to actually burn it and boot from the cd or dvd?

First of all, check on your laptop/desktop company site if they have the drivers software online for windows xp. All recent laptops and desktops tend to not have software that works on windows xp. So if you do a fresh install of windows xp, then you might expect some things not to work.

Anyways, as for your main question, you will have to burn a bootable cd/dvd that has windows xp on it. The reason I say this is that you are not allowed to run windows xp directly when you have vista on your computer. In order to install windows xp, you will have to format your hard disk and get rid of your old data as well as windows vista and then you can install windows xp on it. There are ways to mount the ISO on another computer and boot it over a network, but they're all complicated and really difficult. Look at bootdisk.com for more info. Otherwise, I would suggest burning it to a real CD.

Bet way is
U need 2 burn cd first next format u r pc then install xp

1 - Download http://dban.sourceforge.net/ and burn it on a cd.
2 - burn the XP disk and back up your data (if you want).
3 - boot from DBAN cd and wipe your hd (highly recommended - avoids later problems ).
4 - fresh install of XP.

I found this on the web. It allows you to mount the ISO image as a virtual CD in Win Vista.
