there are a number of distillers that can do this on the web, but the main one is the adobe distiller.

You need adobe PDF writer, This will then install a plugin into MS word and it gives you the option to convert to PDF, So you create the document in word click the button and all done!

I'll give you another alternative... which is Open Source :-)

You can use Open Office and directly convert to PDF.. It's free.. And also kind of easier since you can create a doc file or ODF [ Open Doc Format ] and immediately export to pdf.. A handy alternative to Microsoft Office..

There are 2 ways to convert doc to pdf:
- using a pdf writer that is installed on your computer
- using an online pdf conversion service

Best way is to have the pdf writer installed because in this manner you don't have to wait for uploading/downloading files. There are a bunch of free/commercial pdf writers available like dopdf - http://www.dopdf.com
