Vista Ultimate on 192mb RAM?

I patched a vista ultimate dvd and stripped it down to like 700mb.

It gave me an error when booting from the cd, so I installed Windows 2000 first and ran the CD from their.

It begins installing and gets to the "Windows is preparing to start for the first time" part. Then out of nowhere, BSOD!

My question is do you think I'd have better luck trying to get Vista Home Basic installed?

I can get Vista Ultimate to install on 256mb of RAM but anything lower than like 200mb gives me a BSOD

Windows Vista will not install in a system with less than 512MB RAM available. Even though, you can install Windows Vista with 256MB RAM if you have "modified" the installation CD/DVD with the required files. I invite you to save yourself the trouble trying to get it installed in a system with less than 512MB of RAM as its performance will be miserably poor.

A way around is to use an extra RAM module to get Vista installed and then remove the module in question and leave it with only the 256MB of RAM.

Also make sure you are stripping the installation files properly.
