Is there freeware to reprogram IR port on acer laptops so to use for ir receiver (as in remote controls)??

Basically i'm trying to make it so my apple remote controls iTunes (skips songs, pause/play, volume) on my acer 6463wlmi by making use of the ir port on the front. Can anyone point me in the right direction - I'm sure its possible but a search on google yielded nothing :(

You can't do this - IR ports on laptops can only transmit and receive the IRDA protocol, which is very different from remote control signals. You can't therefore make it receive non-IRDA pulses.

You need to make a receiver which plugs into your serial port to achieve this - the software you use is called LIRC.

this site will give you a sony vaio laptop just for completing some quick online tasks! really recommend it, especially if you're broke but really want/need a laptop (like me).
