I have a product registration window that keeps popping up, I cannot close it.? |
I have a product registration window that keeps popping up. I cannot close it. I have done the obvious clicking the x and going into the task manager to try to stop it but no luck. I have also reloaded the products drivers but no luck. What else can I do? If this is a "free trial version" of a program then there's not much you can do. If it's a program or hardware you installed you can go to your program files, locate the program, look in the program for a folder called "register" or "registration" & delete it. But before you delete it open it & make sure that's all it is. you have to buy it. The programmer wrote this into the program and has control over what you do with the window. Blame this in Bill Gates who wrote this type of feature into the Windoze API. (Application Program Interface) Shareware programmers use this as a "nag" screen to get you to pay the money and register the software. I wrote shareware a number of years ago, and I did this. I never limited the functionality, but I DID make the nag screen come up more frequently the longer my program was used without registration. I started my nag screen at a month after initial installation and then started a countdown which made the screens come up more often. If you used my program for more than 90 days, the countdown expired and the screen would then come up every time you started the program and I disabled certain functions like the ability to save a backup of the data files. I did not limit functionality, but I did limit the ability to recover from a problem. You could still use the program as before, but it was limited in some things without registration. Shareware is designed for an evaluation of the program over a period of time. If, after that evaluation period, you wanted to use the program you should pay for it or cease use. BG even wrote this into the operating system after Windoze 98 as a method of determining whether the installation was a legitimate installation or a pirated copy and if your installation failed the test, would deactivate your operating system after a time period. Basically, BG held your system hostage, which is one of the many reasons why I dislike BG and Windoze so much, however since so many people USE BG;'s stuff, I am forced to do so to stay competitive... |
