How to make DVDs?

i was going to download some episodes from some programs i like, to put on DVDs, but I was wondering what file type do they have to be to be put onto a DVD rewriteable cd, and they will play on a DVD player? I'm going to use Nero, too. Could anyone suggest a good converter program of mpg to what ever file type I need or suggest a better program to use if Nero isn't good for making DVDs? Thanks.

thanks so much all your answers are great!

your files should be iso or avi. nero is great, and probally the most recommended program for writing dvd's. DVDshrink is also good to have.

some DVD players can play other formats but these two work on every player I've heard of.

ConvertXToDVD is the best and easiest.

It converts any video file format (mpeg, avi, divx, xvid, etc) to a standard DVD. And it will play in majority of home DVD Players. (Especially a newer one).

.avi or .iso will work..

Nero 7 <-- ya cant' beat it. best dvd burning software out.

I think ReggieH is spot on. Its idiot proof. Thats why I use it

Nero is the best to write data on to the DVD..

Any format can be put in the DVD to run the episodes u have downloaded

If you want to copy them there's several programs, but if you already have what you want to make the DVD then I think DVD Decrypter or Cheetah Burner are good...

ConvertXtoDVD is awesome, but it isn't free.

Nero will be fine.

One thing to note, converting stuff to DVD takes a long time (2 hrs on my pc; plus if the power goes off, it's ruined). If you had a Divx-certified dvd player, you could just burn them straight to cd or dvd and play them. They're not expensive; however, some play a wider range of videos than others. But, if you invested $40 or whatever on that, you'd barely ever have to convert anything.

To be able to make dvds is easy just ask a store clerk where you can get blank dvds with nothing on them then once you get them tem put one in your computer.then go on a website where you can find videos of the program and download it to the disk then put it in a dvd player and watch.

Try this. It is the best software under 50 bucks:
Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2
