Easy 10 points for most specific answer: (photoshop) How do I make backgrounds for text?

I'm creating an ad using photoshop...

I have some lines of text inbetween some pictures, and I want some kind of window, or background around the text...sort of like the windows around "ask" and "answer" up above.

I am very new to photoshop, but my brain still works.

Help?

I want a rectangular block of color behind a body of text to make it stand out a little more than simply having text on a background.

This is giving me a headache. Do you want a text background or around your picture? Can you show some sample?

In that case, use "rectangle tool" or "rounded rectangle tool" to add background for your text. Change to any color before you do that using swatches. You must create this in a new layer.

Drag your rectangle tool, make it slightly bigger than your text. Once done, move it using move tool to align. If your rectangle or background is created in front of your text, open your layers and promote your text to front (bring to text to top) Just drag it to top.

Best work with "fill pixels". Look in your workbar below menu, 3 small icons, select that saying fill pixels.
