How to find source of illegal copy of husband's software on CD?

My husband used to sell a software program on the internet, for downloads only, and then due to many business difficulties has decided to close down the website and the downloads.

However, someone just emailed him that they had purchased the software on CD and had a question!

How can we find out (besides asking this "customer") where someone is selling these fraudulent CDs? We sent the customer an email, but I don't know that they're going to answer now that they know it was illegal, or now that WE know they have an illegal copy.

Yes, we've searched all over the internet for sites on our software (besides our own of course) and so far nothing. We will keep looking.

Oh this is such a shame, Unfortunately people get confused between freeware, copyrighted ect. I expect someone put it on CD of the web and is possibily selling it via say the carboot sale. I see these programs all the time and they say they are freeware.

It would definately be worth asking the person who emailed you. He sounds like an innocent bystander and has no reason not to tell you. If they paid they would want to get their money back. It may have even been somewhere like ebay and if you contact them and expain they would stop further sales,

I hope you find out how it was copied to CD. there is a section of the police which you can contact and may be able to help. Like fast for movies..
