Can I use the today() function in Excel to return the date 1 week ago, or a month ago?

I'm trying to return the date from one week ago. I want to use the today() function in excel but I'm not sure what argument I have to use.

Try using something like Today() - 7 and see what happens

=Today()-7 will return 2/20/08

in your cell put:

=today()-7

Yes, you have to change the date on your PC to make it think it was the date you want in the Date & Time Properties. The function today () just reads from that time.

a week is easy
=TODAY()-7
months will be harder because the number of days changes
=TODAY()-30
I'm sure there is a formula that could also figure out what month it is and subtract the right number of days, maybe an if statement.

Yes, you can but u need to indicate the number of days.

Enter this into the cell:

Today minus 1 week
=today()-7

Today minus 1 month (30 days)
=today()-30

Today minus 1 month (31 days)
=today()-31
