Why can't I see pictures in the new Microsoft Word?

When I insert a picture into the new Word, all you can see is the frame and not the picture. If you go into 'Print Preview' you can see it then, or if you change the size of it, it appears for a second. But when I go to crop the image or whatever, I can't see it. Is there some setting I have to change?

Good question. It's hard to find the answer, even in WORD help.

It is probable that Picture Placeholders have been enabled. Click the OFFICE BUTTON in upper left corner. Choose WORD OPTIONS (at bottom.) Select ADVANCED. Look under the Section that says 鈥淪how document content.鈥?Remove the check from 鈥淪how picture placeholders.鈥?

Picture placeholders might be helpful if you are designing a document and you don鈥檛 know what graphics you are going to use but you want to work on the layout. You can use placeholders, then insert the graphics later.
