Could this be a virus or just a computer problem??

Well, last night I turned on my other computer loaded fully in the task bar Antivirus was disabled with windows security alerts alerting me to it (This has not happened in a long time I never downloaded things recently...) Then a strange popup with a countdown pops up and says windows needs to shut down and blah then the window disapears, then another window comes with a countdown then another comes saying "Windows is logging off" then the computer shut down....Which I don't understand I don't do bad things on my computer...Don't have Limewire I don't know if this is a virus or what...Please answer as soon as possible, thanks.

And for the first window I said it also said "please save all work in progress here's an example picture. http://www.upenn.edu/computing/virus/04/...
But it had about 20 seconds before shutting down

wow sounds like you've got a lot of stuff going on with your pc lol.

i've had many, many pc problems in my days, some were somewhat similar to what you have described. i reformat my computer when i cannot find out what is wrong, but here are the steps i go through, which may help you as well:

download and then update - spybot search and destroy. this is a very, very good anti spyware program that will catch things like registry changes and such. when my windows security center was disabled one time, sbybot caught it right away. very good program, and it's free

(just select one of the mirrors to download)

also adaware might be of some help, it is a good partner program to spybot. also a free program/

the final method i use, if all else fails, is use kaspersky anti virus. this is such a good program. i personally believe it beats any other anti-virus program out there.. mcaffee, norton, avg.

the only downfall to kaspersky is, you can only use it for free for 30 days. so you get a 30-day free trial, in which it will scan 100%, and 100% delete malicious files out of your computer. so i only use it in cases of emergency lol. and since i happen to reformat all the time, i can use it one time after every reformat.

(download.com is a trusted site - so no worries)

if your computer keeps trying to shut down on you, run it in safe mode. if you still need to download the programs, yet your computer keeps booting you off, start your computer in safe mode with networking.

also - so you're prepared, kaspersky's virus scan takes kind of a long time. but it's well worth it. it searches all the places in your computer where those pesky malicious files hide. that is, if a bug or virus is your problem.

best of luck to you.. i hope everything turns out good! ;)

Sounds like a genuine Windows security update - should be ok but keep an eye on it. Is your computer running slow?

Sounds like you have something nasty on your pc. Boot in safe mode and run full scans with spyware remover and anti-virus, then remove what they find. If you still have problems, post the problem in detail on here or do a yahoo or google search on how to remove the specific problem.

Hope this helps.

Well if you enabled Antivirus after it said it was disabled, then possibly your computer needed to shut down to apply the changes. The windows logging off and shutting down screen is normal. But I never heard of counting down. My conclusion is that you don't have a virus.

Hope that helped :D

It is a strong possibility that you have a virus known as Sasser virus. You should stop trying to use your PC until getting rid of this virus. Do so without delay. Isass.exe is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login process. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer. It should never be removed or disabled. To remedy this, use another PC to find out how to deal with this by typing 'How to remove Sasser virus?' and there are a number of sites that will tell you exactly what to do. Note, some viruses can attack the very program which deals with combating nasties.

I have found something for you and you can find out for sure if you have one. Follow these steps.

1. Press 'start' and then press 'run'.
2.Type "shutdown-a", (that is the shutdown command with the "-a" option which stands for "abort the pending shutdown".
3. Press OK.
This doesn't fix anything, it just lets you get on with the business of disinfecting your computer.
4. Use a firewall (use Windows firewall).
5. Install the patch - this can be found with Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011.
6. Remove the virus. There are several Sasser removal tools floating about on the net, and you can also find the tool in "Microsoft's What you should know about the Sasser Worms and its variants".
7. Update and run your anti-virus program
8. Stay up to date. make sure 'Automatic Update' is switched on and up to date.

I can't guarantee this will work for you but at least it is something for you to do, to try and solve this problem.

NOTE, I am feeling generous today, but Michael the top contributor down below my answer is right, do that first before going down my route.

Before you go down the sasser route above,
have a look at link below where it says,System Process C:\Winnt\System32\Lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 128.
The system will now shut down and restart, and
this is the message on your picture.Follow what
they say and see if it helps.

well, i have done this to my self on purpose before, so i kinda know how to fix the shutting down problem. if you get good at it, it can take a mere 6 seconds to do. first, you press the windows button on your keyboard(in between ctrl and alt) and press r at the same time. this will bring up the run command. now type in "cmd" without the quotes. this will bring up a black box. in the box your going to type "shutdown -a". again, without the quotes. this means shutdown abort. the timer should go away. if you want to ever enable the timer for ome reason you can do this. get back to the cmd box. then type in >>>shutdown -s -t 99 -c "your comment here" -f<<< this will shutdown your computer in 99 watevers, and in the box above it will say "your comment here" unles you change it. f will force all of the applications to close without you telling them too. now for the security turning off, i have had this happen. just go into safe mode and run a full system scan. before you do that, you have to disable system restore, becuase viruses can hide in there, and then if you ever restore your computer it will be infected. so disable it (just google how to do it), and run a full system scan in safe mode, to get to safe mode, you press f8 when the system is turning on, and choose safemode. delete everything that the scan finds, and enable system restore and restart pc. if the proboblem continues you can download another virus protection system or contanct the manufacuers. avg is always a good source of protection until you can get your other stuff to work. just go to download.com, and search avg. it is compleatly legal, and download.com will help you if you dont know what to do. cnet.com iis were the site is based from. good place to check for things. hope this helps. otherwise you might have something that i need more ifo about to fix. later
