Limewire safefty?

I have Avira AntiVir, windows defender, and ad-aware. The reason i got these programs was because limewire said i was share 16000 files, and when i went to check what they were , they were things that i have never seen on my computer in my life. Turns out i had 15954 viruses. I wanna know if now that i have all these things protecting me if limewire or any other file sharing programs are safe. Dont answer this question if your dumb.

By the way forenicgirl is a ***** who i hope dies in a car accident. dont insult the questioner if you want best answer.

Is LimeWire Dangerous?

If you enjoy file sharing programs, LimeWire isn't a bad idea. If, however, you don't want other individuals to have access to your files, LimeWire is a truly bad idea. Not only will it slow your personal computer down, it will also destroy any meaningful internet experience that you want to have because your bandwidth will constantly be in demand by other LimeWire users downloading the files that you have posted. Some users have reported having the bulk of their allowable bandwidth consumed all day everyday by other LimeWire users.

LimeWire As a Security Risk

Using LimeWire and allowing others to connect to your computer presents a security risk to you. In order to use a filesharing network like LimeWire, you have to disable many of your defenses that protect you from other users. While others are not supposed to be able to see the information you don't post directly, crafty users will have no trouble accessing any material they want on your machine. From personal files to password and credit card information, it's all very available once you become a part of LimeWire. Whether you have a firewall on your computer or not, your security is at risk with a service like LimeWire. Indeed, one of the features LimeWire advertises on their own site is how easy it is to get through the firewalls of other users. More than any other filesharing program, though, LimeWire is particularly dangerous, as there are several security flaws within the network. You don't have to be a hacker to grab someone's financial data from the service, and with the rates of identity theft on the rise, it's best to protect yourself at all costs.

You may want to check out podsafe http://music.podshow.com/
You can download music legally and its free too!!

Limewire is garbage.Download Ares.
http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/

wow that's A LOT of viruses!!! i dont really understand your question since you aren't asking a real question, but you need better software, it doesnt work as well if its free and downloaded online, sometimes that's how you get even more viruses! limewire can cause viruses if you are not careful, so make sure it looks legitimate first before you download, like looking at the size of the file..if it's too small or too big then it's probably a virus or spyware.

Best to delete the program.

Limewire is legal and safe. What is not safe with P2P sharing of files, that you open the back door of your PC, for some really nasty viruses, keyloggers, rogue dialers, malware, adware, etc. etc. Plus it is a crime to download videos, music, files & folders that are copyrighted.

I don't know of any P2P file sharing that is safe.

Sorry this is the best advise I can give you.

The rest of these people are jerks for not answering.

Under either Preferences or Options, you can find something called Shared Folder. The folder you select for this is the directory of all the files that you are sharing with everyone else on the Gnutella p2p network. You probably have it set to something like My Documents where there is alot of stuff. It is best to be more specific, like your music collection only.

As for the viruses the best free antivirus I can recommend is AVG. There is no reason to get a virus from limewire as long as you don't download entire directories, zip folders, or .exe files (programs). Always virus scan your downloads folder before you open anything.

Using inadequate security and not having it in the first place would be the only dumb thing. Maybe there should be something to posters asking them to not post if they are dumb.

Clearly you were using this file sharing program with absolutely no security... sounds pretty dumb to me.

And now you are choosing to protect your computer with freeware programs... again, doesn't sound like the wisest choice.

If you are not properly protected... nothing can protect you from you. No matter what programs you are using if you don't utilize safe browsing habits, common sense, proper security suite from a reliable vendor and in conjunction with windows updates... then you're at greater risk.

Good Luck

i dont know if i am dumb or not ,,but i do know this----- I stay away from Limewire.
