VIRUS in a forward?

Someone sent me a "forward" showing how to deal with a pan catching fire and it seems to be stuck on my computer. Though I have deleted the e mail the sound continues all the time and I have to have my computer on "mute" as its getting on my nerves now. How can I get rid of this please?

If you have a bog standard anti-virus program, chances are a scan wont pick up the bug.. So you do need a program with the malware/spyware package added on. It could be linked to spyware or something similar. You could also try a system restore (backing up to a previously secure setup).

Attaching trojans to a "forward" message is a crafty way to hit a lot of people at the same time and invariably you send this cheery message complete with bug to all your friends...thus you all have problems at the same time.

I once advised a friend of mine about such tactics though that was something else she didn't believe ... why would one of my closest friends send me a virus ?? Answer is, they dont do it intentionally but it DOES happen.

Do you know the name os the sound file? If you deleted the email, is it still in your trash folder?

do a virus scan it should pick it up but if u know where the file is go to the location and delete it, if u have done that then do a scan to see if its gone

Google it, see if there is a name for the virus, if there is you should be able to download a removal tool from symantec or mcafee or any other anti virus providers website.

Use avg to scan for a virus(free.avg.com), if that doesn't work then use combofix.exe, after that the infection will be demolished.
