Router and firewall, do I really need both?

If I set my routers firewall on high security do I really need a software firewall? I have kaspersky internet suite but it's going to expire soon so I was wondering if I turned my windows firewall back on and used my routers firewall set on high security would this be a good choice for security? Does anybody else do this, or does everybody have software firewalls with their routers firewall?

Firewalls usually just provide a false sense of security. The end user will almost always let an infection in by choosing to allow it or by installing other programs that may contain infections.

A firewall is to prevent things from coming in and out but if you install something and it starts to infect your pc and lower its security level ther is not much a firewall can do, Hardware or Software.

So to answer your question you can if you want have both.

Yes, it is a good idea to utilize both firewalls. A router firewall will prevent intruding computers but will not detect viruses. Your widows firewall can prevent you from downloading a virus but not always. It is a good idea to also use a separate anti-virus program. Do keep in mind that if you plan on using any FTP (file transfer protocol) programs that you will need to configure your firewalls and anti-virus to allow them in.
