OK....this is age old problem going back to the days of Chaos verus Control. The best thing to do is throw your computer out and get a shoe phone. Then, you should have no problems reaching anyone. If you still insist on keeping your old clunker of a computer, consider using a "cone of silence" over it when you are corresponding with anyone. This maintains a certain degree of discretion. No single anti-spyware application is perfect so I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot (they are free). Other free anti-spyware programs would be AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido), Super Anti-spyware and SpywareBlaster.

I strongly recommend using FireFox, it's a far better and safer alternative to Internet Explorer. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

spyware doctor is brilliant - i use it religiously

Download Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Ad-Aware and AVG Anti Spyare.

Disconnect your PC from the internet.

Install all three apps.

Do a complete system scan with each one, one at a time.

Plug in your network and download the current anti virus definitions for your anti virus software.
