Is it possible to password protect individual document folders in microsoft word?

I want people to be able to access my computer while I'm not around, but not be able to get into certain folders. I don't want to have to create user profiles for everyone because it would be too complicated to have each person log in and out over and over. Is there a way to just protect certain files and folders?

With the word document open, go to Tools -> Options -> Security Tab

MS Word has a password feature built in.. so you could set a password by going into the preferences of the document.

I think your vision is a bit flawed tho... it's much easier and far more secure to set a unique login for each user and to set your My Documents to private.

Setting folders to private is another matter.

I would advise you to look into getting a program like WinRAR that will compress folders and files .. and will allow you to not only password protect the compressed archive.. but will also allow you to encrypt it.

Good Luck

Yes.
MS Word has a password feature built in. However this doesn't encrypt the Document.
Also, are you using mac or windows.
On windows you may have to buy software to protect folders depending on the OS.
On Macs you can restrict access to folders simply by right clicking and choosing "get info" and changing the permissions.
But either way it makes more sense to create a user name for each person and then set limits.
Or if you are using a windows pc, you could just let others login as "guest"
However you must remember, password protected files are merely protected by a few digits. If you want full security encrypt your files. Or better still, purchase a USB flash drive or other storage device such as a memory card or smartphone. Password protect the actual drive/device and encrypt the files on the drive/device. You may also want to make a password protected back up just in case you lose it.
If you use a smartphone to hold your files, if it is ever lost you can have software installed that let's you wipe it's memory remotely.
Hope that helps.
