How do i password protect my folders and files in vista?

but the only thing is... is i would like to do it without using any software... is there any way to do so?

Windows does not include a built-in method of password protecting your folders and files. If your looking for a free program to password protect your files and folders I recommend Truecrypt.

Truecrypt is a free open-source disk encryption software for Windows Vista/XP/2000 and Linux. CNET gives Truecrypt a 5 star rating so you know this software won't dissappoint you. Another alternative worth mentioning is SystemVault.

Use the adminstration rights for yourself and create a password. Anyone logging in would need the password to open up your personal desktop. You can also create another account so anyone can use your computer without seeing any of your files.
Control panel then User accounts.

use with Great Caution "EFS"
Encrypting File System

it's built into windows
but may or may not be available based
on which version you have

"home basic" - "ultimate" etc
I don't have a step by step for you to implement it because I don't have vista but M$ says EFS is still available in vista because it's a native function of the NTFS file system

You can use a freeware called Super Hider { http://autosysbot.googlepages.com/superh... }. It can superhide or show the files or folders you mention. It is a password protected standalone and there is no need for an installation, Thereby risking the loss of data from your system if someone accidentally uninstalled the software.
