How do you deal with online theft?

Is there anything that I should know to prevent online theft like deleting cookies everytime you shut your computer down?

There's no need to delete your cookies everytime you shut off your computer.

The best thing you can do to prevent being a cyber-victim is to avail yourself of a bit of security awareness training... like learning how to recognize spam, phishing attacks, etc... and not being duped because of greed or loneliness.

Invest in a proper security suite from a reliable vendor like mcafee or norton and ensure its properly configured and kept completely up to date.

Keep your operating system current with the latest security patches (windows updates).

Thats about it... just use safe browsing habits, common sense.. and know enough about your security program to know how to properly respond to an alert. If you have programs you use on the net... learn enough about them to secure them.

Good Luck

Run a spyware removal program often and only visit safe sites

With firefox you can set it to clear your temps and cookies to clear ever time you close the program, and if you use noscripts extension you can't get viruses unless you download them and open them. You also should have security. You should also make sure you block any junk emails and never open junk emails don't download something unless you know its clean, you also should set up a firewall and maybe even use proxies.

Setting up your firewall properly is the key. Set it to medium. go to your control panel.
