Is there a way to lock a folder on your computer so no one else can get into it?

and how would i go about doing that

If your system is using NTFS file structure you can make your files private. This means that the files may only be viewed by your logon id, other usernames will not be able to view your 'private' marked files.

To mark your folder as private, right click on the folder, select properties, select the 'sharing' tab and check the tab marked as 'Mark this folder private'.

You can supplement this privacy with Encrypting File System (EFS), which is also included with Windows XP. You can look this up in the windows help menu.

Good luck.

A-one Folder Encryption

On any unix/linux:
chmod -R go-rwx myFolder

On windows, probably not.

For Windows, you can set the file to be hidden, meaning it won't show up unless you specifically ask to show hidden folders.

Another way is a third party encryption software.

The best way is to put the folder into a zip or .rar and pasword the .zip/.rar.

neat trick: make it invisible so you do not have to go through the trouble of encrypting and what not...

control panel--> folder options-->click view tab--> click show all hidden folders (or something to that effect)

right click your folder, hit properties and check hidden...
go back to the folder options and click hide all hidden folders... there you go ^_^ most noobs won't be able to figure out where it went ...
