Which is a better Antivirus........................ Bit Defender Free Edition or AntiVir Personal Edition ???

Both don't have real time protection. Choose Avast as your main AV and keep Bit Defender as a per request scan AV.

avira antivir classic do have a real time protection but bitdefender free do not. Bitdefender free only has an on demand scanning and could be good as your secondary antivirus. Note that no two antivirus should run real-time protection at the same time. But they could co-exist if one is the real time and the other as your on demand scanner.

Bit Defender Free Edition has excellent virus detection rates but it is an on demand scanner only. It can only remove infection after your computer becomes infected. It cannot protect you against infection.

Avria Anti-Vir PE, on the other hand, provides real-time resident protection to protect againest infection as well as providing an on demand scanner.

Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. Works great on my Vista box, too.
