Website defacement is a tactic used by competing hackers who hack another hacker's site and completely vandalizes the site, like the hacker's name is everywhere, the site freezes whenever you visit it, and the administrator of the website is given multiple "E-bombs" which are pornography advertisements. Website defacement was a popular weapon used in the infamous "Great Hacker War" of 1990- 1991.

Web defacement is when a web site is hacked into and the pages are changed (defaced)... like graffitti on a wall would be defacing the wall.
